The Sounding Board

For solo operators and husband-and-wife teams who want a regular, trusted outside voice. Someone who understands business, has no reason to defend your past decisions, and will say what they see.

When you are the business, you need someone in your corner.

You're not only the expert. You're also the salesperson, estimator, marketer, credit controller, problem solver and, when the money runs short, the bank. Staff, customers, suppliers, lenders and family might all have opinions, but you're the one who has to decide, and live with the result.

The Sounding Board gives you a fixed time each month to step out of the work and look at the business. A trusted outside voice when you need to talk through a decision, before it's made rather than after.

What's included

  • One 60–90 minute session every month, in person or by video
  • An agenda for every session, so we cover what matters
  • Notes and recommendations after each session, so you don't need to take your own
  • A realistic task list, never an overwhelming one
  • Light email access between sessions
  • No lock-in contract

What working together is like

If I had to sum it up in one word, it would be fun. I'm not stuffy or overly serious, because people are more creative with their business, and far more willing to share, when it doesn't feel like they're presenting to the board.

You already have the information and the ideas that will lead to your success. My role is to draw them out, put them in order and present them back to you.

When to step up

As the business grows and you start leading a team, most owners move to The Boardroom for structured counsel across the whole business and unlimited phone support. You can change the level whenever it suits.

Working with Adrian gave us clarity and confidence. The advice was practical, grounded and immediately useful, and it worked.

Questions

About The Sounding Board.

What's the difference between a business coach and a business advisor?

A coach mostly asks questions to help you find your own answers. An advisor also brings the experience of having done it. Adrian has owned and run businesses since 1984, so alongside good questions you get a straight view of what has worked, and what hasn't, from someone who has sat in the owner's chair.

Is one session a month enough?

For most solo operators and couples, yes. A fixed monthly time to step out of the work, with light email access between sessions, keeps decisions moving without adding to your workload. If you need more, The Boardroom adds unlimited phone support and a quarterly deep-dive.

Can my partner come to the sessions?

Yes. The Sounding Board is built for husband-and-wife teams as well as solo operators, and decisions tend to stick when both of you are in the room.

Is there a minimum term?

No. There's no lock-in contract, and every session is backed by the Effective Perspective Guarantee.
